How I Left My Day Job & Started My Own Business
Now, if you told me a year ago, "Kayleigh, you'll leave your horrible job working weekends at a grubby petrol station and start your own business" I would have laughed in your face. Seriously...
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would have started my own business just three years after leaving school. Coming from a family who pressured me into finding a job as soon as I left Sixth Form, I thought I would always work meaningless jobs on the side while working towards my dream of being a filmmaker (which is still my ULTIMATE dream by the way), and that's what happened for the first two years of leaving education.
I was SO unhappy in my previous job. I'm a very creative person and am always thinking of new ideas for films, books and short stories; constantly creating and dreaming. So for me to sit in a dirty little garage in the middle of nowhere for 10 hours a day for two years... you can see why I finally had to have the courage to leave. And it did take courage; it was probably one of the scariest things I've had to do in my life so far (I'm only 21, so I'm sure I'll come across more frightening things). Telling my parents that I'm quitting the safety of a regular job and going freelance, having to figure out the in's and out's of running a business (I don't know if I'm there yet, but is anyone?!) and finding work for myself were all things I was so frightened about. But I told myself to be brave, and so I did it, and here I am! A BUSINESSWOMAN AT THE SPRITELY AGE OF 21! Yaaaaasss!!
I'm still very much at the beginning of my 'business-woman' journey but have already learnt so much from some amazing and inspiring people, and it's those people who encouraged me to expand my dreams and to share my skills and talents with lovely people like you!
I have already worked with some incredible award-winning photographers and super cool local businesses, helping them grow and giving them back some time for them to focus more on being a bad-ass boss.
My journey is just beginning...
So, here's to owning 2018 and being a #bosslady!
